Miss M Mobeen is responsible for overlooking the provision of SEND in school. As SENDCo, her role is to work closely with other teachers and parents to ensure that children with additional needs receive provision that will help them to make progress.

Dr A Seedat is a Senior Educational and Child Psychologist. He is commissioned by the school to work on every other Thursday. Dr Seedat works with children and young people from 0-25 years, and with the adults who are involved with them, in order to improve educational outcomes and support them to maintain their psychological wellbeing.

Mr N Marshall is a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist. He is commissioned by the school to work on alternating Tuesdays and Thursdays. His role is to provide support and advice for children who have difficulties with speech, language and communicating and interacting with other adults and peers.

  • What are the different types of support available for my child with SEN in this school?

    • In our school, our support is based on recognising the individual needs of your child
    • Our teachers are all qualified and have regular CPD in order to meet the variety of needs in their classroom.
    • Our teaching team have many years of experience supporting a variety of needs
    • The Teaching Assistants at Lapage are regularly trained in how to best support all children, especially those with Special Educational Needs.
    • If additional training is needed for the adults working with your child, this will be provided
    • Currently, we have trained, experienced Learning Mentors who work with children to provide them with additional support, both within and outside of the classroom to help children learn
    • We have a classic nurture group with fully trained staff who support children to further develop socially and emotionally to help them to learn better in the classroom
    • We have a wealth of experience in supporting children with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC)
    • Our hygiene room is equipped with a hoist to support children with physical difficulties to transfer
    • We have a stair climber to transport children using a wheelchair upstairs

    • Our teachers are trained to understand the needs of all children and will develop a caring relationship with your child to help him/her fulfil his/her potential
    • Class teachers develop carefully planned and structured lessons to ensure that learning is personalised to children in order to ensure that they make progress and that the targets are achievable
    • The Teaching Assistant will work closely alongside your child and deliver quality interventions to enhance your child’s progress
    • We are a Communication Friendly school and we encourage our children to share their thoughts, feelings and any concerns they might have with us so that we are able to help them.

    • All children are supervised at all times and we have systems in place to ensure that our children are safe at school; these can be customised to meet the needs of your child.
    • All staff have regular safeguarding training so that they know how to keep your child safe
    • When leaving the school premises, careful assessments of risks are undertaken and provision is made to reduce these.

    • Feedback and/or discussion for your child’s progress can take place both formally and informally
    • There are regular opportunities (three times a year) for formal feedback
    • You can request an additional meeting at any time
    • When you collect your child at the end of the day, the class teacher will be happy to give you brief feedback
    • If you have any immediate concerns, you will always be able to talk to someone in school
