Year 4

Welcome to Year 4 at Lapage

Our Year 4 topic this half term is, the Romans. The children will learn about the history of Rome and understand where in Europe Rome is; whilst looking at how the Romans came to extend their influence to create such a large and influential empire! Moreover, the children will explore what life was like in Ancient Rome while investigating the lives of famous Roman rulers, their beliefs and Gods. The children will visit Leeds City Museum where they will be transformed into Iceni warriors to re-live the drama of Boudicca’s rebellion via an immersive, hands-on storytelling session; led by a member of the famous tribe. There is an abundance of physical legacy the Romans have left behind to satisfy our young enquiring minds; making this the most memorable and exciting historical topic!

Hello, my name is Mrs Hussain, and I am currently teaching in Year 4. I joined the team at Lapage in December 2022 as a Reception teacher. I enjoy teaching and love seeing children learn and the progress that each child makes. In my spare time I love travelling with my family and reading.

What's new in Year 4

In Year 4, we have been very busy. We have been practicing our timetables whilst skipping; reading in the school library; and we have been learning about religious festivals (Diwali).

In Autumn term, as part of their Romans Topic Year 4 children experienced being a legionary (a Roman solider). They learnt all the commands and battle tactics. Upon return to school children designed and made their own Roman Shields and swords.

As part of National Science and Media Museum’s ‘Switch on’ exhibition Year 4 had a day of fun and discovery as they explored the museum and attended a workshop where they designed and made their own toys.
